How many apartments are available for rent at Southwest Village?
Southwest Village will be a total of eighty-one (81) apartments, of which fifty (50) apartments will be subsidized by Project Based Voucher (PBV) assistance referred by the San Diego Housing Commission. Sixteen (16) apartments are designated as Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) for those persons who are in need of mental health services and experiencing homelessness or at risk of chronic homelessness.
What bedroom types will be available?
There will be 30, one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments; 30, two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments, and 21, three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments.
When will move-ins occur?
Southwest Village is currently under construction and the first occupancy is expected in mid-fall of 2024.
I’m interested in living at Southwest Village. How can I get an application?
We are currently accepting inquiries of interest. Applications are anticipated to be available in September 2024. When available, applications will be accessible on this website and can be submitted electronically. When available, an application can also be printed and mailed to the PO Box listed on the application.

Southwest Village is located at 232-239 Willie James Jones Avenue, San Diego, CA 92102. Please note, Southwest Village is currently an active construction site so no one is permitted on the site at this time.

The Southwest Village leasing office is not open. When applications become available, they can be obtained at the Paradise Creek Apartments Leasing Office located at 2120 Hoover Avenue, National City, CA 91950 from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday.
Is there a preference for San Diego, CA residents?
No, there is no preference for San Diego residents.
What is the qualification process?
Southwest Village will have minimum and maximum income restrictions. All potential applicants must be income eligible. The eligibility process will include the collection of self-reported information along with 3rd party verification information. The eligibility process will also be determined based upon bedroom type and household size. Please see our income information on this website.
How much is rent at Southwest Village?
Rents are based on a percentage of Area Median Income and vary by household size and bedroom type. Net rents by bedroom type are anticipated to be: One-bedroom apartments range from $677 to $1,453. Two-bedroom apartments range from $799 to $1,730, and three-bedroom apartments are anticipated to range from $907 to $1,982. Rents are subject to income data published by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and may change at any time.
Where can I mail my application?

What happens if some of my family are traveling when they are contacted for an interview?
All applicants must be present to participate in the interview process to be considered for housing at Southwest Village.
Does Southwest Village offer on-site storage or garages?
Yes, Southwest Village will offer additional onsite storage. The site will not have enclosed garages.
What are the parking options?
Parking options have not yet been determined.
What are the transportation options?
The Southwest Village leasing office does not provide transportation services. Southwest Village is located in close proximity to public transit via the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System.
Will Southwest Village offer social services and resident events?
When Southwest Village is 100% occupied there will be some customized services for residents based on individual needs. Programs for residents will be based on the needs of the community and provided at move-in. Residents living in the PSH units will receive personalized social services based on their assessed needs.
Are these apartments rent controlled or are rent subsidies attached?
Rent control does not apply at Southwest Village and there are no rental subsidies. Minimum and maximum income limits do apply. Portable Section 8 vouchers and other tenant-based rental programs will be available.
Are subsidies from family members allowed?
All recurring gifts from family members not currently residing with the applicant will be confirmed and counted as part of your total household annual income. Please feel free to contact us with specific questions after you are assigned an application number and contacted for an interview.
Is the income based on one person’s income?
No, income sources for all household members over the age of eighteen are accounted for on the application. Income is based on the total gross household income of all household members.
Are pets allowed?
Yes, Southwest Village is a pet-friendly community. Please see the Southwest Village Pet Policy. A pet deposit of $300 does apply.

Are short-term leases available?
No, all leases are a 12-month lease.
